How would the Academy improve things?
The reason for proposing to open a new Academy on the island is to provide educational opportunities for all students at secondary level. The independent status of Academies allows them to be more flexible and creative in the way they manage, govern, teach and deliver the curriculum and to find the right solutions to meet the needs of the local community. The main changes would be improvements in the school environment and an increased emphasis on challenge, achievement and excellence. The proposed Academy would be supported by a £40 million pound investment to create a modern learning environment that would help to improve student achievement. New buildings would be constructed that would provide first class facilities and increased opportunities offered to students.
