How Would Proportional Representation Change Canadian Politics?
Recently MacLean’s Magazine and the Cable Public Affairs Channel co-hosted a conference on making the Canadian political system work better. A large part of the discussion revolved around proposals for new election methods, such as proportional representation. Currently Canada uses a “first past the post” election for each parliamentary riding. The candidate with the most votes is elected, even if they do not have a majority.
