How Would One Utilize a Polarizing Filter?
Camera filters reduce, alter or eliminate some of the light entering the camera lens. Most light consists of randomly polarized waves at every angle from horizontal to vertical. Circular polarizing filters consist of two glass elements etched with microscopic parallel lines, with one element unable to move and the other free to rotate. Rotating the top element will block different components of reflected light, darkening the sky or altering reflections from shiny surfaces like glass or water. Screw the polarizing filter to the front of the camera lens. Twist the filter onto the threaded rim of the lens until seated firmly. With the rear glass firmly secured, the front element remains free to rotate. Compose and focus the shot. Look through the viewfinder while slowly rotating the front element of the filter. Observe the image as it changes; stop turning the filter when you achieve the desired effect. Take the photograph and review it in the viewfinder. If the image contains too much re
