Currently, CALPADS and CALTIDES are designed only to collect and report K-12 data needed to meet the requirements under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The McKinsey & Company report provides a framework to create an education data system that can lead to continuous improvement in our public education system. The report recommends the collection of additional key data about schools and students and making that data more accessible to parents and community members. It also recommends improving access to that information for educators, researchers and policymakers. Then, by linking the K-12 information to other data sources (including pre-K, higher education, the workforce, and social services), California will have a much more comprehensive view of our effectiveness in training students to be full participants in today’s global economy. A high-quality, comprehensive and integrated education data system is needed to create a continuous learning cycle in our schools and our state. It
