How would delegates to Academic Council be selected?
Currently, every Academic Assembly member has a seat on Academic Council, the university’s highest academic policy-making body besides the Board of Trustees. As the number of seats granted ASMSU on Academic Council is fixed, the distribution of choice Academic Council seats to the larger Student Senate is a key consideration. The proposed Constitution states that “the Student Senate shall appoint its members to Academic Council in a manner that shall ensure the diversity of the delegation.” It also grants the ASMSU President and the Secretary for University Affairs Academic Council seats. The constitution also guarantees two Academic Council seats per college and one seat per CORES/COPS delegation. In the event that more than two representatives from a specific college desired the college’s Academic Council seats, that delegation would elect two of its members to Academic Council.
