How would allowing referees the ability to refer to technology during penalty decisions affect the game?
If it meant that the correct decision was made, then it would be an improvement, and would hopefully take some of the diving out of the game, however, would only really be able to be used at the big games, as at grass roots, for one the technology would not be available, and there is a struggle enough as it is to get a qualified referee for every game, never mind someone to work the equipment, plus costs might be prohibitive. I would rather see a penalty goal, similar to rugby’s penalty try, when a defender handles the ball on the line. That way, the attacking team get their just reward, and people get to see 11 players against 11, instead of the dismissal of the offender, and the penalty kick, which gives the offending team the chance of actually preventing a perfectly good goal because the keeper could save the kick, or the kicker put the ball high or wide of the goal.
