How would aircraft be affected if wings were forward facing?

I think the faster the plane goes the smaller a wing span is needed, that is why some planes wings are swept backwards (think concord). As for forward facing, not sure, if you look at the natural world for wing shape in insects and other flying things, you dont see many forward facing wings. That plane that virgin have to launch the new space plane may have the nearest to what you are thinking about. Just rethought this, boat hydrofoils are forward facing so it may be possible, well on a boat in water where they are small in relation to size of craft, on a plane maybe it would be too unstable.
