How would a poor person have lived in the 1800s?
They would have worked from dawn to dusk for very poor wages maybe only enough to feed themselves if they had families there would never have been enough money to go around . the poor man worked as a porter in a market ,chimney sweep with children about six to climb inside the chimney , road sweeps, making blacking from lead ( Blacking polish for stoves and metalwork to make it shine black), labourers, In London sewer workers, servants ,navies(digging tunnels and culverts for the railways) any menial job that they could find . They mostly drank gin a very cheap drink in them days almost pure alcohol.
