SAS is more flexible than SPSS and has more features for clinical research analyses. However, in terms of conducting the analyses, SPSS features a GUI while SAS requires direct programming. Some find the latter cumbersome to learn. Ultimately, the software package you select may be determined by that which is required for use by your department, if any.
