How will you compare the Indian mutual fund industry scenario vis vis other developed countries ?
Every industry has its ebbs and flows. Mutual funds in India are a knowledge-intensive, people-driven industry, an industry with ups and downs in revenues. I think that we are catching up. It is a sophisticated industry with a lot of competition and opportunities. Investor convenience and the features offered are good. Our fund management skills are at par with international standards today. In terms of capabilities we might be good, but in terms of growth, we are definitely at the lower level of the growth stage. Indias mutual fund industry is not mature enough as compared to that in other developed countries. The overall industry in India is growing by around 25-30% on an annualized basis. There are many players coming in. Some players have also seen their assets under management doubling over a period. So I would say that, growth-wise, we have a long way to go.
