How will World War III begin?
Many people have asked me when we will know World War III has begun or if it has already begun. I usually reply that it will be up to future historians to decide. Yes, the 9/11 attack could have been the trigger for World War III. Yes, the US invasion of Afghanistan begun October 7, 2001 and continuing low-level conflict there against Al Qaeda could have been the first battle of the war. Yes, the US invasion of Iraq and overthrow of Saddam’s regime begun March 19, 2003 and a continuing American and UK military presence there could be the second battle of the war and stage one of a larger Middle East conflict to come in *post-war* Iraq involving Turkey, Iran, the Kurds, and Syria or a US defence of Iraq against Iranian efforts to turn Iraq into another Islamic state — a regional conflict that eventually may become linked with the struggle between Israel, the Palestinians, Lebanon, and Syria.
