How will WERF address short- and long-term issues (including for example, applied versus fundamental)?
As in the past, WERF will continue to work with subscribers to balance the needs for short- and long-term research. Under Program-Directed Research, research challenges can address short- and long-term issues. In addition, WERF can address short-term, emerging issues through cooperative and targeted collaborative research (TCR). We can address long-term, or fundamental science and technology, issues through the unsolicited research program and the Paul L. Busch Award program.
