How will wealth be handled differently in Voyages than in any other game?
Actually, there will be quite a few differences from what people might be used to. First and foremost, one of the goals of the design is to make money and equipment a little less important than in other games, at least in terms of building a powerful character. In most current games, a significant portion of a character’s power comes directly from what equipment he can gather and/or afford: wealth and the equipment that wealth brings are crucial to the viability of the character. Voyages attempts to create some additional distance between wealth and character prowess/power by transferring most of the “power effect” currently gained through the acquisition of Equipment into Techniques instead. That’s not to say that there won’t be equipment of varying effectiveness, artifacts of awesome power, and so forth.
