How will we keep New River safe from pollution so that its seafood is safe for consumption?
A- The area of New River around Sneads Ferry historically has produced seafood and shellfish that have provided an income and a wonderful food source. In the past, efforts to protect this area have been by lone individuals and by state agencies that concentrate on a generic plan that fails to protect water quality due to storm water runoff caused by under regulated development practices. If incorporated, Sneads Ferry can write its own regulations for development and storm water controls that are reasonable and effective. These rules, by law, would be recognized by any federal or state agency. We would also have a strong voice concerning what happens to and what is put into New River upstream of our municipal boundaries.
