How will warming in the Arctic affect the United States?
Some of these impacts are detailed in a new Pew Center report, “Observed Impacts of Climate Change on Natural Systems in the United States” by Camille Parmesan of and Hector Galbraith, released on November 10, 2004. Observed impacts in Alaska include the northward migration of treelines, increased melting of permafrost and the release of carbon dioxide from the thawing tundra, and changes in competition between species such as the arctic and red fox.
