The census poverty count determines the federal funding we receive through Title 1, a federal grant to schools for at-risk students. The district identifies which schools are eligible for Title 1 funds by their free and reduced lunch percentage. If Title 1 schools are closed (and both scenarios include Title 1 schools), those funds will be distributed to the schools whose free and reduced lunch percentage makes them eligible. Once the money is allocated, the building School Improvement Plan outlines how it can best be spent to help all students who are educationally at risk. We will not lose Title 1 funding as a result of school closures. It will be allocated to all eligible schools.
