How will these changes impact an average customer with a 32-gallon cart and once-a-week collection?

0

A customer with a 32-gallon cart paid $16.90 per month for weekly garbage and recycling collection service in 2008. In 2009, that same customer will pay $18.46 per month. That’s a $1.56 or 9.2 percent increase. Of that increase, $1.10 is a utility tax increase that funds public safety and other general services. The remainder pays for inflationary costs, such as labor and energy, related to garbage collection and disposal. Like residential customers, commercial customers will also see an increase of about 10 percent. However, not all rates are subject to the utility tax – recycling and yard debris collection fees, for example – so some service rates will only increase about 3 percent.
