How will the U.S. militarys new nuclear warhead design effect any negotiations with Iran?
The design of a warhead will not affect negotiations with Iran. Both the old-design warhead and the new ones would work equally appropriately over Tehran. The advantage of the new ones are their maintainability in the silos or storage, which is really not a factor in negotiations. There might be a small PR advantage, in that we’re sending a message to the Iranians and others that we’re committed to our nuclear arsenal long-term. Retaliation will be swift and sure, should they do something stupid. But in actuality the old warheads would avenge Iranian foolishness just as well as the new ones.
