How will the program benefit BGE customers who are paying for the program but not participating in PeakRewardsSM?
Overall, the savings from PeakRewards℠ will far outweigh the cost of the program. Capacity and energy revenue earned by the program in the wholesale market are applied to offset the costs of PeakRewards℠. Customers will see savings resulting from wholesale capacity and energy prices that are lower than they otherwise would have been. Also, BGE will be spending less on transmission and distribution infrastructure because the program will help to relieve the peak load that this infrastructure will have to carry. As PeakRewards℠ reduces demand for electricity, all customers, including those not participating in the program, will benefit from electricity price reductions in the wholesale markets. The program will improve electricity service reliability to all customers; and everyone will reap the environmental benefits of reducing emissions from electricity generation plants and reducing the amount of electricity that generation plants will need to provide.
