How will the October exit level Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) retests be affected by the displacement of students from certain Texas districts and from other states?
October exit level TAKS retests will be administered on the schedule as provided in the 2005-2006 testing calendar. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will work closely with the affected regions and districts to provide alternate testing sites if necessary. The agency is exploring options for additional retest opportunities as well. Texas students: Any Texas student who is eligible to take an exit level TAKS retest and who has been displaced due to Hurricane Rita should participate in the October retest if he or she is enrolled in school on the day of testing. Hurricane Evacuees from Other States: Students who have been evacuated from other states due to the hurricane who anticipate graduating from a Texas public high school before September 1, 2006, should also participate in the October exit level retests if possible.
