How will the new vetting service improve on the current schemes?
• The Vetting and Barring Scheme, which will replace current barring schemes is the most inclusive and largest system of its kind in the world. • Barring decisions will be taken by Independent Experts. • For the purpose of this scheme both paid employees and volunteers are subject to the same implications, restrictions and obligations – except in terms of the application fee (free for volunteers to register). • Once the scheme is fully implemented, it will mean that anyone who wants to work or volunteer with children or vulnerable adults in ‘Regulated Activity’ will be required to be registered with the ISA. • A barred person will be committing an offence should they seek employment or volunteering opportunity in regulated activity. • It will be an offence for any person to commence Regulated Activity without first being ISA-registered. • It will be an offence for an employer to hire a person in regulated activity without first confirming their ISA registration. • Employers, personnel
