How will the new OSHA ergonomics rules impact my business?
Since OSHA has not yet finalized these rules, it is hard to determine exactly how the new rules will apply. However, reviewing the current suggested rules, several things become apparent. 1) It does not appear that it will become mandatory for companies to develop ergonomics rules unless they have repeated injuries on the job. 2) Many of the changes necessary will help companies be more efficient in the long term. 3) Small businesses and others will have low cost options to address many ergonomics concerns. 4) For more in depth information about ergonomics, go to the government site at *www.osha.gov and scroll down to the ergonomics section. It has many details which are the current thinking from the government about ergonomics and probably will shape the upcoming legislation very significantly.
