How will the new Dodge Challenger compete against the Ford Mustang?
The Mustang has been the sales leader in this segment for the last 15+ years, so I don’t see them giving it up easily. That said, I think the Mustang will again be the slowest car in this class. Slow just comes naturally to the Mustang. 🙂 The Challenger name didn’t last very long back in the day, so it doesn’t resonate with the public the way the Camaro name does. Having been gone for only 6 years, it’s still somewhat fresh, especially when an old ’02 Z28 can beat up on an ’08 GT. That makes for “street cred” and potential buyers. I think the Camaro could sell nearly as well as the Mustang if priced right. The Challenger will be tricky. Yes its gorgeous, but at the price they are talking about, it may be viewed as a niche car. The Crossfire is a sweet design, but priced out of its class, so as a result it is getting the axe. I hope the Challenger hangs around, but if it doesn’t take off in the first year, they’ll have to drop the price or its done. I’m sure they don’t want a repeat of
