How will the new Dodge Challenger compete against the Ford Mustang?

while the challenger and the camaro will both take sales away from the mustang, at first any way, ford will be forced to improve the mustang to maintain its place as the number one pony car. remember that from 1967 when the camaro was introduced, all the way through the end of production, the camaro outsold the mustang 8 times, and none during the mustang ll period.

I personally think that Camaro will come out on top. I am not a fan of Mustang. I drove it once and didn’t like the ride. The Challenger looks promising but with the sticker price of $45K I doubt many will be able to afford it. If GM prices Camaro right, it will be a great seller. Besides, I think it has the best styling.

The point is not to “knock over” the Mustang because it’s an impossibility. But let’s back up a bit . . . Dodge, is rolling out the SRT first, then later the regular versions will be coming out. If you understand this point, then your comment will be moot. The Challenger is also on a larger platform, so although the original Challenger is a ponycar like the Mustang, the new car is less like a ponycar than the current Mustang. Still, they will be competing with each other, and it’s a good thing because it shows that there is a market for traditional American auto enthusiasts to buy one of “their” cars. The Camaro will be icing on the cake . . . although Pontiac says, for now, there will be no Trans Am.

I agree, it will be hard to say since the challenger isn’t out yet, but i would have to say that it would probably beat a ford mustang, the mustangs just don’t have much power (stock), i was very unimpressed with the new mustangs, i was hoping for a muscle car, but i got a town car with a high performance body.

If they make convertibles and keep them priced close to the mustangs, they should compete. If not, they’ll still kill them on looks and performance.
