How will the new Academy be governed?
A limited company with charitable status, to be known as the DEEP Academies Trust, will be formed to run the Academy. This Trust will be run by a Board of Directors appointed by Durham University, with membership from the DEEP consortium, together with a Director from Durham County Council, parent and community Directors and the Chair of the Governing Body of the Academy in Durham City. The Trust Board is the legal entity responsible to government, through the Young People’s Learning Agency, for the finances of the Academy and the appointment of its Principal. The Trust will devolve the day-to-day running of the new school to the Principal and the Governing Body of the Academy. This will be chaired by the sponsors, DEEP, with a membership that will include a Local Authority governor, a parent governor and a staff governor, as well as community representation.
