The new Heads of Colleges will be charged with promoting research synergies across Schools in the Colleges and across Colleges. They will also have the responsibility of developing ‘big picture’ interdisciplinary research strategies within and across Colleges. The new academic structure will be the ideal environment for these types of projects and will create many new opportunities to work across disciplines and to explore new areas that are inherently multidisciplinary. It is the intention that in the new academic structures, existing links will be strengthened and diverse new relationships will be forged. Although our self-financing units, e.g. Welsh Institute for Natural Resources (WINR) will also be placed within one of the new Colleges (for managerial and administrative purposes), this does not mean that the interdisciplinary nature of these units will be compromised.
