How will the Nevada Arts Council (NAC) use its NEA Recovery Act funding?
The NAC will distribute $250,500 through its newly created SNAP Grant Program (Sustaining Nevada’s Arts Programs) that will offer one-time grants of up to $10,000 for eligible NAC grantees. Grants are to be used solely for preserving full and/or part-time positions and/or contracted personnel, as required by the Recovery Act. SNAP Grant funding will be available starting July 1, 2009 and may be used by grantees through June 30, 2010. Underserved populations are especially vulnerable during economic downturns, and as directed by the NEA, NAC will ensure that stimulus funding reaches organizations that serve rural areas, at-risk youth, seniors, and the disabled. To this end, NAC was awarded $50,000 through the NEA Stimulus Grant (1) for partial support of the Nevada Touring Initiative Assistant (an hourly contract position in jeopardy because of cuts to the NAC budget).
