How will the local chapters make money without a yearly dues payment?
Local chapters exist primarily to host regular meetings and events to encourage broad participation and interaction with UTC Athletics. Each chapter will maintain a local bank checking account under at least 501C(7) status. When and if chapters turn a profit from friend-raising or fund-raising events, net proceeds will be deposited into the local bank account. At the end of each fiscal year (June 30), chapters will “turn over” their proceeds (less seed money for the next year) to the UTC Athletics Development office as a scholarship contribution from that chapter. This turnover is based on annual net income. Some expenses that used to be incurred by the Chattanooga Mocs Club, i.e. printing, postage, rentals, etc. will now be incurred by UTC Athletics, both due to our affiliation and the lessened burden of “chapter fundraising” (in lieu of scholarship fundraising) borne by each chapter and member.
