How Will the JRC Project be Evaluated?
The JRC project will implement over 20 separate field tests of RJ conferences, each of which will allow a direct comparison of restorative and conventional justice on many important criteria: Rates and seriousness of repeat offending Victim emotional repair and recovery from the incident. Repair of material harm to victims and communities Confidence in the fairness of law by victims and offenders Social support for offenders in obeying the law Short-term answers to these questions will be provided for management purposes to the operating agencies by the JRC university team. A long-term, independent assessment of the randomised controlled trial field tests will be conducted by social scientists at the University of Sheffield under a separate Home Office grant.
