How will the ISO standard for geographic information relate to other initiatives such as the Dublin Core?

0

The Dublin Core (DC) is not a standard but an international initiative focusing on the Discovery aspect of metadata. The DC has gained broad cross-sectoral support and has recently been endorsed by CEN in a Workshop Agreement (see http://www.cenorm.be/news/press_notices/metadata.htm) as appropriate metadata for Multimedia Information discovery. The DC does not replace sector-specific standards such as that of IS 19115. The relationship is therefore one of complementarity between sector-specific standards and DC which helps discover information resources across disciplinary or sectoral domains.
