How will the increase in traffic be handled in and around the annexation areas?
Annexation primarily brings undeveloped lands into the city for urban growth over the long term. As such, traffic and transportation impacts of development will occur over time as these areas are planned and eventually developed. The City is responsible to maintain roads within the annexation territory upon the effective date of annexation to at least the standard that was previously in place. The City of Calgary is working on an agreement with The MD of Rocky View for the MD to continue to maintain the roads with the City providing compensation for services rendered. Some roads (e.g. boundary roads such as Range Rd 284 etc.) will remain within the MD.
