How will the Government fund the hospital?
Building a new Hospital is without doubt the largest public infrastructure development to be undertaken in Tasmania for many decades. The government has announced that it will be setting aside $150 million a year for the next six years as a hospital fund. This fund will go towards funding the new hospital but will also be spent on other hospital projects statewide. Following finalisation of the site location, size and design of the hospital, we will have a more detailed understanding of the scope of the project and therefore the level of cost involved. Once the operating and construction cost of the hospital has been determined the project team will identify options for funding the remaining cost of the hospital if more funds are required. These options will be presented in the Business Case. The Government will then be in position to fully consider and assess the options to fund this significant project. Any funding decision will not jeopardise our fiscal strategy.
