How will the EPA notify and make the arrangements for former workers an/or family members of former workers to come to Libby and be tested?
A. EPA has requested funding for former mine and processing area workers and their families to participate in the screening. This funding is included as a top priority in EPA’s mid-year budget request for money to supplement ongoing projects. EPA will know whether the money will be available by August of this year. In the meantime, EPA will research the options for providing the best screening possible for former workers and their families, whether it be in Libby or at clinics nearer to where they live. In order to do outreach to these people, EPA needs to know who they are and where they currently live. EPA will keep track of former workers and make sure that they get on EPA’s mailing list. Since we know there are many miners/workers who moved to Elko, Nevada, EPA will run an advertisement in the local paper in Elko asking those people who are interested to contact EPA or ATSDR. EPA will also send information out to people on the mailing list that is used to send information about upc
