How will the City of Portland’s winter weather operations change this year?
Portlanders should expect more rain this winter. The City is following forecasts from the National Weather Service that point in the direction of a more active winter storm season than normal this year. Models show that La Niña conditions may bring more precipitation, cooler temperatures, and more storms than normal. Even if temperatures aren’t cooler, we expect more rain. Because of these conditions, we are emphasizing the need for early preparedness – both for the City’s snow and ice responders and for Portlanders. Be mindful that winter weather in the Portland area can change quickly and without warning, making travel unpredictable. The City of Portland and our partners are ready. We ask you to be ready, too. Every resident and business should be prepared for the worst possible conditions and take heed of severe weather warnings. Be mindful of weather forecasts and conditions and plan ahead if you have to venture out in bad weather.
