How will the City address the issues and concerns regarding the impact of the 2010 Winter Games on inner-city communities?
The Vancouver Bid Book included an Inclusive Commitment Statement that outlined goals and objectives for planning and holding an “inclusive” 2010 Winter Games. The commitment highlights working with the communities with the goal of protecting people from being made homeless by the event; providing both short and long-term jobs for local communities; and ensuring that civil liberties such as the right to protest are respected. A study on the potential opportunities and impacts of the 2010 Winter Games on Vancouver’s inner-city neighbourhoods was commissioned by the Vancouver Agreement in cooperation with the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation.
