How will the Balkan crisis play out in Russia?
Many political experts say this crisis has brought about a rise in Communism s popularity among the Russian people. Although the Communist party does not have a majority in Russia s legislative, it has called for President Yeltsin to denounce NATO s aggression on Russia s boundary. Anti-American feelings have increased among the Russian people since NATO began bombing Serbia March 24, 1999. There has also been a number of Russians demonstrating outside the American embassy in Moscow. President Yeltsin told NATO that there would be frightening consequences if they sent ground troops into Kosovo or Serbia. Many Russians said they would volunteer to fight against NATO in Serbia. Do Russia and Serbia have cultural links? There have always been strong cultural links between the Russian people and the Serbs. They both have the same religion and ethnic heritage.
