406 MHz beacon will work better because they will be manufactured to more rigid specifications which will improve their survivability. 406 MHz beacon will provide a better position (2-5 kilometers using Doppler technology and 100 meters using GPS technology). The 406 MHz beacon will provide owner/operator identification information which will allow the SAR forces to respond quicker in a distress situation and expend fewer resources in non-distress situations. Lastly, the 406 MHz beacon will provide global capability.
