How will taking AP and honors classes weight your GPA if it was 2.8 and you take three AP and two honors courses?
Honors classes look great on a college application and expose you to a higher level of learning. If you are willing to do the extra work, an AP class is the right place for you. The honors/AP classes are weighted higher so they will boost your GPA. A 90% total average might come out to a 92% with the weighted average. A college would much rather see an 89% in an AP class than an 96% in a regular class, it shows you are willing to work hard.
