How will students be grouped?
• Our students will be grouped in many different ways depending on grade, subject area, and the structure of the instruction. It is important to note that grouping structure is not the most important factor contributing to student learning, the teacher’s attention to quality instruction is. A tracked ability group system is something we will work to avoid, as it generally narrows the scope of a teacher’s instruction despite there still being vast differences between levels of student understanding. In addition, a tracked ability system often responds slowly, or not at all, to the changing needs of our students as they learn and work through different content- this is especially true in math and science. • Sometimes students may be grouped heterogeneously by grade- meaning a balanced mixed ability group of kids- most of our groups will be structured this way and teachers will differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of different skill levels of students. This group structure wo
