How will SSA’s plan remove the Sea’s foul odor?
A. The SSA does more than the other alternatives to improve water quality. SSA’s plan uses several strategies to lower the amount of odor producing nutrients (such as phosphates) in the water. One strategy includes a mid-Sea barrier that would separate the Sea into two main water bodies, connected by navigable causeways. With “flow through” lakes in the upper basin, the water will flow continuously, moving salts and nutrients into the lower basin. Wetland areas along the inflow streams are also planned. Treating the water both before and after it reaches the Sea is also being explored in a series of studies currently underway.
