How will sites use the high-speed data transfer capabilities of the Highway?
Many locations throughout the state – such as the universities and government offices in Raleigh – have databases containing information often needed by other agencies. But, current links get tied up when data is requested in very large volumes. The Highway will allow users to do the same jobs in seconds, either sending or receiving data. Users can access more databases. Counties in rural areas want access to databases in state government, for medical records, court documents, educational resources, land records and other valuable information which is based in Raleigh. Such transmissions are not feasible over current networks.
