How will SAMI make a difference to the maritime security industry?
SAMI will establish a transparent set of standards that MSC will have to attain, as this is recognised by the maritime industry (shipping companies, charterers, insurance brokers and underwriters etc) we expect it to be the adopted ‘norm’ and thereby for the majority the minimum standard. There will always be “cowboys” in the maritime security industry just as there are in every other line of industry, but what this will do is set the bar for standards. For the operatives it will provide them with the assurance that they are working for an accredited MSC that will provide them with SOPs, pay them promptly, insure them and pay their expenses and not expose them to undue risk.
