How will Roseland protect the Swift Creek Reservoir?
The Swift Creek Reservoir is one of the county’s most beautiful and vital natural resources. It is a principal water supply for Chesterfield County and a unique recreational amenity to the County. Roseland will incorporate innovative designs that not only clean the water that runs off from storm events, but will actually reduce the amount of water that runs off in the first place. In a design approach called low-impact development or light-imprint development, the rainfall is captured near where it falls and allowed to nourish the vegetation rather than become a torrent of runoff that causes sediment and pollutants to be transported to the Reservoir. Whether it is green roof plantings, or underground cisterns that are used for irrigation, Roseland’s approach to stormwater management and protection of the Swift Creek Reservoir provides a model for how to sensitively develop and how to make better use of one of our most important, and free, natural resources…rain.
