How will restructuring affect the REF?
Performance in the REF is an important benchmark for the any research-intensive university, and we are no different. Indeed, the timing of the next REF in 2013 is one of the key motivators for the timescale to restructuring – if we do not make fundamental changes now, then we will miss the opportunity to make meaningful changes before 2013, and capitalise on the benefits of moving to our new structure. In light of the reduced number of units of assessment in the REF, the restructure will fit in well with the new format, however, the restructuring is not designed around REF as it has to address the needs of the entire university community.
