How will quantifying MIC help precasters?
This is the first step in being able to combat MIC. There are several companies that have developed products they claim will inhibit or reduce MIC. However, there is no standard test method in which to evaluate these products. The research being funded will support the development of such a test. After a test is developed, precasters will be able to compare one product against another and compare these treated products to untreated concrete. From a specifier’s point of view, it shows the world that the precast concrete industry is united and is taking steps to proactively address the issue of MIC.
