How will peer socialization skills be addressed?
Social integration procedures focus in large part on play dates with typically developing peers. Prior to initial play dates, programs focused on teaching age-appropriate plays skills (board games, fort-building, role-playing) are implemented. Initial play dates are conducted with individual peers, last 20-30 minutes, and are supervised and structured by Tutor and Senior Tutors. Clients and peers are prompted to engage in play activities that clients have previously mastered. Subsequently, the duration of the play dates is gradually increased, the staff’s structure of the sessions is faded, and multi-peer play dates may be introduced. Staff also take data on preferred play activities of play mates and classmates, and introduce programs to teach these play skills during teaching regular one-to-one teaching sessions.
