How will online registration impact voter registration in Washington?
Voter registrations are expected to increase. In two years after on line registration was authorized in Arizona, registrations increased 9.5%. People expect to be able to use the internet to register to vote. The internet is used for paying bills, obtaining professional licenses, buying stock, and a many other activities of modern life. In terms of voter registration, over the past three years, more than 200,000 voter registration application forms have been printed from the internet and mailed in. Online voter registration reduces the need for paper forms to be printed since applicants will now only need to click a button to submit the registration to their county elections office. Registrations and transfers are expected to increase particularly among 18–25 year olds, who generally tend to change addresses more frequently than other age groups. Currently, this age group lags behind others in terms of voter registration and voter turnout.
