How will Olympics 2012 benefit East London?
The one place it has already benefited is that it has developed a large area of what was deemed “brown land”. This land was an eyesore, and in places looked almost marsh-like (some people would consider that to be beneficial to the environment but very little in the way of wildlife was actually there). True enough, jobs have been created in the short term rather than the long term. Access to world class arenas for all sports in London are few and far between (football stadiums excepted) and IF they decide to open up the arenas for national events and for private use, then the potential to get kids all around London enjoying sport again will be there. It has helped bring forward the planned increase in transport links to Heathrow (at last). And from what I’ve heard, the Olympic village will be sold as residential property, increasing homes in London (which is increasingly needed).
