How will my family (or business) be notified of impending emergencies, or provided emergency information?
The community is notified of impending emergencies through normal media channels. The National Weather Service will broadcast watches, warnings, and advisories through the media. Local and County emergency management personnel will also utilize the media for less common emergency notifications, such as recommendations to shelter in place or to evacuate certain areas. One of the most important emergency preparedness actions you can take is to secure a battery powered AM/FM radio to receive emergency notifications and information in the event of a power outage. Another very effective means of emergency notification is through NOAA weather radios. These radios are activated at any hour of the day and do not require a television or radio to be on.
