Several airlines will let you fly with your dog if you keep him in a pet carrier, then they accept your pet carrier as your carry-on luggage for an additional fee around $100. It should be easy to fly him in a pet carrier since chi’s are small. I would NOT let him go in cargo since he is so small. I fly with my westie on Southwest Airlines. They are very pet friendly; there were 3 other dogs checking in when I was. I know Delta is really big on flying pets with you too. Why don’t you ask your parents what airline they will use? Then go to that airline’s website, look at their policy, and then you can look up the flight information, find out how to make a pet reservation, and they will tell you how long it takes to fly and if there are direct flights. If there aren’t, I would look for a long lay over between each leg of your flight so that someone can take him outside to do his business and go through security again in case the airport makes you go through a security check again.
